Complex infrastructure fails at the joins.
Investor, board, CEO, development, grid, legal, construction, operations and commercial decisions each have their own language, pace and risk profile. Left to themselves, they drift apart and complex businesses come undone in the gaps between them. McMillan Maclean exists to join these decisions up.
We provide independent advisory and implementation support for infrastructure, energy transition and complex growth platforms. Our work helps leaders make better decisions before capital, reputation and execution capacity are committed - and help those decisions hold once they are.
How we think
We think like operators because we have been operators. We do not stop at the market view. We test strategy against decision ownership, stage gates, capital at risk, delivery constraints, commissioning, handover and operating model required once the asset is live.
Our instinct is structural. We help clients put in place the governance, commercial model, operating model, risk allocation, partner interfaces and delivery discipline that allow ambition to scale without losing control.
We are independent by design. We hold no product to sell and no balance sheet to deploy. Our value is judgement: clear, practical and grounded in what it takes to deliver and scale.
How we build
We are small by design and principal led throughout. We prefer direct, substantive dialogue and we take on a limited number of engagements so the principal stays close to each one.
We work discreetly. We do not publish client assignments or transaction sensitive work; our engagements sit close to board, investor and leadership decisions, where discretion is rather the point. Where helpful we discuss relevant experience directly - in the context of the client’s situation, the decision in front of them and the support required.
Where the client needs more than judgement, we provide embedded, fractional or interim senior support to carry the decisions into execution.
